Martin R. Phillips's career includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University and more than twenty (20) years in the consulting engineering field, including three (3) years as an engineering technician. Mr. Phillips is licensed as a Professional Engineer in five (5) states. As a technician, he gained invaluable experience in laboratory and field quality control testing of asphalt, soils, concrete, and metal construction materials. After graduating, Mr. Phillips provided engineering support for investigations of construction related problems, including comprehensive laboratory and field testing. This work was performed on a wide variety of facilities, including manufacturing, institutional, commercial and residential buildings, responsible for diagnosing problems and designing repairs, and later coordinating the construction activities, including project administration, and construction monitoring. Mr. Phillips then served as the various construction activities. Most recently, Mr. Phillips has performed building envelope, roof and structural system surveys for residential and commercial facilities. In this capacity, his engineering experience has included evaluation of system failures, primarily related to deficient construction and catastrophes.
